Daniel Boone was a real life American pioneer, not a fictional character. He settled the pioneer town of Boonesborough, Kentucky which lies in the central portion of the state on the Kentucky river. As an employee of the Transylvania Company, Boone led other pioneers through the Appalachian Mountains wilderness via the Cumberland Gap to the site of present day Boonesborough where they built Fort Boonesborough in 1775. With a few exceptions, the native Indians were not pleased to have white men invade their territory. By this time, many promises to the Indians had been broken and after years of giving into the white man's demands and being squeezed into smaller and smaller territorites, the Indians decided that they would either be absorbed into the white man's culture or destroyed if they didn't fight. Daniel Boone and his fellow pioneers survived a hellish Indian attack on the fort in 1778 but realized that they would eventually be overrun so the fort was abandoned in 1779. Of course, we all know that the Indians ultimately lost their struggle to maintain their way of life and Boonesborough exists today with a population of approximately 2,500 residents of whom 98% are white.

Ten years before the Daniel Boone TV show premiered, Fess Parker starred as another American pioneer on five episodes of "The Wonderful World of Disney" as Davy Crockett. Davy was referred to on those shows as "The King of the Wild Frontier". During the 1962-1963 season, Fess also starred as Senator Eugene Smith on the series, "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington". Parker also starred in several movies including "Springfield Rifle", "Old Yeller", "The Jayhawkers" and "Hell is For Heroes", among others. One of Fess Parker's closest friends was fellow actor, Governor and U.S. President Ronald Reagan!

Patricia Blair began her career as a teenage model. Warner Brothers Studios signed her on as a contract actress after seeing some fairly racy photos of her for that period in time which highlighted her youthful sex appeal. She got roles in several movies that didn't go anywhere but in 1959 she got six appearances on the western series, "Yancy Derringer" and a recurring role on "The Rifleman" that lasted for 22 episodes over an entire season. During those years she got other roles here and there before landing her starring role as Daniel Boone's wife Rebecca for 124 episodes!

Theme Song

Title: "Daniel Boone"

By: "Vera Matson & Lionel Newman"

Performed By: "Fess Parker"

Daniel Boone was a man. Yes a big man.
With an eye like an eagle and as tall as a mountain was he.
Daniel Boone was a man. Yes a big man.
He was brave, he was fearless and as tough as a mighty oak tree.

From the coonskin cap on the top of ol Dan to the heel of his rawhide shoe
The rippin'est roarin'est fightin'est man the frontier ever knew.

Daniel Boone was a man. Yes a big man.
And he fought for America to make all Americans free.
What a Boone. What a wonder. What a dream comer truer was he.
