Convoy Trivia

Convoy got its name from the fact that soldiers and supplies were moved on a great number of ships (a convoy of ships) that all sailed together so that a relatively small number of Navy ships could protect a large amount of men and supplies.

Convoy was one of the last TV shows to be filmed in black & white.

Ben Foster's merchant freighter was named "Flagship" and the designation of Dan Talbot's Navy destroyer excort was "DD 181".

The dangers that the Convoy faced weren't all man-made. They sometimes found themselves caught in fog so dense that the ships might crash into each other and they also found themselves in horrible storms with ship destroying waves!

Convoy didn't have much chance of securing decent ratings. In its 8:30 to 9:30PM slot on Friday evenings it had to compete with "The Addams Family" and "Honey West" on ABC and with "Hogan's Heroes" and "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." on CBS!
