Dexter's Laboratory Trivia:

Dexter's Laboratory was first seen as a single cartoon on the Cartoon Network's "Cartoon Cartoon Show". It was so popular that it became a series. Other shows that began that way include "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Johnny Bravo".

The inspiration for Dexter came when series creator Genndy Tartakovsky drew a thin and tall ballerina character. He thought it would be a great idea to pair his ballerina with a stocky and short character and that became Dexter.

There was one episode of Dexter's Laboratory that never aired because it was found to be objectionable for viewing by young kids. It was titled, Dexter's Rude Removal" and has been shown at some comic conventions.

The reason that you don't see Dexter or his familie's last name in the credits above is that their surname was never disclosed during the entire series run!

If the title of episode #127, "Sdrawkcab" looks like some alien language, it's not. It's "Backwards" spelled backwards! In that episode Dexter spoke in reverse on several occasions.

Every episode of Dexter's Laboratory was a collection of two or three short segments except for the finale episode of the second season titled, "Last But Not Beast" which aired as a single 25 minute long storyline. That episode was supposed to be the series finale but Dexter was so popular that fans begged for his return and the Cartoon Network brought him back three years later for two more seasons!

Over that three year time period several members of the production staff had moved on to other projects so new people were brought in and that changed the tone of Dexter's Laboratory just a bit. Genndy Tartakovsky was busy producing "Samurai Jack" and "Star Wars: Clone Wars". Writer Seth MacFarlane was extremely busy producing, writing scripts and doing the voice of Peter Griffin on the series, "Family Guy".

Some popular segments on Dexter's Laboratory did not center on Dexter's sister and parents. Among the most popular were "Dial M for Monkey", "TV Puppet Pals" and "The Justice Friends".
