Series Description

Trading Spouses was a 60 minute reality series where either the moms or dads of two families switched households for a week. Different ideas about how to discipline children, husbands' roles versus wives' roles, the importance of home cleanliness and other lifestyle choices often created major conflict. In the end, someone was either enlightened by new ideas or disgusted by them.

Trading Spouses Trivia

The motivation for couples to appear on Trading Spouses was that each family would receive $50,000! There was one stipulation that sometimes created even further conflict. Each mom decided how the other family had to spend the cash!

ABC announced their upcoming series, "Wife Swap" several months before its premiere date in September of 2004. Then Trading Spouses premiered on FOX in July and RDF Media who produced both the British and American versions of Wife Swap accused FOX of stealing their idea for the show. FOX responded that production companies and networks borrow ideas from each other all the time and that CBS was just mad because FOX beat them to broadcast!
