Series Description

That Girl was a comedy series about a young woman who moved from a small town to New York City to pursue an acting and modeling career. This show was the first one about the life of a single girl. The time was the mid-sixties and women were becoming liberated and so was television. That Girl did have a relationship with a boyfriend but she didn't let him or anyone else rule her life! She got herself and her boyfriend into all kinds of jams but everything always turns out great in the end.

That Girl Trivia

Marlo Thomas is married to talk show personality Phil Donahue. She is the daughter of Danny Thomas who previously starred in his own TV show, "Make Room For Daddy (1953)". Her Father also guest-starred on "That Girl" in episode #127 "Those Friars"!

That Girl was the first of the "Independent Women" TV shows. Other programs such as "The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970)" followed shortly thereafter.

Ann Marie and Don Hollinger never did get married on the show. They did get engaged in September of 1970 and Don had a Bachelor Party just 4 episodes before the end of That Girl's run.

Bernie Kopell appeared on That Girl from 1966-1971. For the first few years (1966-1969), he also appeared on the TV show "Get Smart (1965)" as the notorious character "Conrad Sigfried". At the time, working on more than one show at a time was quite rare. You probably know Bernie best as Dr. Adam Bricker on "Love Boat".

That Girl was a major boost to George Carlin's career. Other than the short-lived program "The Kraft Summer Music Hall", That Girl was his first credited TV appearance!

Ruth Buzzi went straight from her role on "That Girl" to her role on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1968)".

Marlo Thomas was nominated for an Emmy every year That Girl was on the air except 1969. Unfortunately, she never won. She did, however win a Golden Globe in 1967 for "Best Female TV Star" and That Girl was also nominated for a Golden Globe that year for "Best TV Show".

Ted Bessell came to That Girl straight from his role as Private Frankie Lombardi on "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964)".
