They waited a bit too long to change the title though. NBC and a nationwide movie theater chain promoted the show with all sorts of advertising on soft drink cups, popcorn bags, posters, and other stuff in the theaters. Unfortunately, they all had "Fathom" on them rather than "Surface"!Lake Bell played the role of Sally Heep on both "The Practice" and "Boston Legal" TV series. Lake Bell actually quit Boston Legal for her chance at a bigger role on Surface. She did return to guest star on Boston Legal a few times though. Lake is doing fine though with four movie roles in 2008 and another filming and due for release in 2009 at the time of this writing (September 2008)! Jay R. Ferguson's character, "Richard 'Rich' Connelly" was loosely based on actor Richard Dreyfuss' character, "Roy Neary" in the 1977 sci-fi classic film, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Jay R. Ferguson played the role of Dr. Todd Hooper on nine episodes of "Judging Amy". He also portrayed "Sheriff Rudy Dunlop" on the short-lived series, "Glory Days". Carter Jenkins began acting in Community Theatre around the age of seven. Shortly, Carter was approached by a local talent agent and the offers for commercials started rolling in! Carter's mother took him to Los Angeles for training, and after a mere two weeks, he was represented by a top agent and getting work!
