Series Description:

The Punk'd TV show was a 30 minute reality series on MTV where famous people had jokes played on them. Each episode would entail Ashton Kutcher setting up a situation to make that week's celebrity cringe with fear or embarrasement! Then when they felt that their whole world was about to come to an end, someone would point to the camera and say, "You've been Punk'd!"

Punk'd Trivia:

During the first season, Ashton Kutcher had to run out at the end of a punk and say, "You've just been punk'd! You're on my new MTV show!" By the time season two began, the words were no longer necessary. Most of the TV, movie, and musical stars were well aware of Ashton's show. All he had to do was walk into the Punkee's view and they'd know exactly what had transpired!

For the same reason (audience familiarity), the field agents had to be replaced each season. After one season, they'd probably made enough enemies to last a lifetime anyway, ha ha!

The celebrity who was punk'd the most is Wilmer Valderrama ("Fex" on "That 70s Show).

The very first Punk was very effective and popular with audiences. Carmen Electra and David M. Navarro were picked up in a limosine by a trash-talking driver. The driver (who was, of course, actually a field agent and in on the Punk) got in a hit-and-run accident. Carmen and David, of course, couldn't believe that the guy didn't stop and were terrified by what the final results might be and how it might affect them! It was so popular that the same punk was used several more times on different victims.

Ashton Kutcher has often said that he's off-limits as a Punkee, but his staff ignored that on two occasions. The first time was as a test for the crew (by the Producers) and was done before Punk'd ever aired. Ashton was forced to go through an x-ray checkpoint at MTV over and over again. Then later, Britney Spears talked the crew into Punking him but Ashton figured out what was happening and convinced Britney to ultimately Punk his crew!

There were several times where people refused to sign releases, sometimes because they did something horrible that they didn't want fans to see (although I suspect that they might have been willing to cut something like that out) or they just felt offended by the Punk or that it violated their right to privacy. Alex Rodriguez refused and insisted that the tape be destroyed when he was shown dealing with a loud-mouthed and offensive Red Sox fan while having dinner out with his wife. Rodriquez said, "It was a good idea. It was just bad timing." The rap group, "Black Eyed Peas" were tricked into a fake brothel and then fake police showed up to arrest them. The group's lead rapper, "Will.I.Am" was in on it and when the fake cops began to arrest him a member of the Black Eyed Peas entourage hit one of the cops in the face! They immediately stopped taping and explained to everyone what was really going on. There were no release forms forthcoming for that episode! And there were several others.

At the end of the second season, Ashton announced that he would not shoot a third season of Punk'd. The frenzied press did story after story about why he would end a popular series. Eventually, Ashton announced to the press and the public that we'd all been Punk'd!
