Providence Theme Song

Title: "In My Life"

Written By: "John Lennon & Paul McCartney"

Performed By: "Chantal Kreviazuk"

There are places I'll remember all my life
Though some have changed
Some forever not for better,
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living,
In my life I've loved them all.

Providence Trivia

Episodes of Providence have been broadcast in 30 countries around the world in several different languages.

When Mike Farrell took on the role as "Captain B.J. Hunnicut" on the series "M*A*S*H", he realized that when a major character on a TV series is replaced it sometimes kills the show. You see, he joined the cast in the fourth season after Wayne Rogers left his role as "Captain 'Trapper' John McIntyre" because he felt that his part was playing second fiddle to that of co-star Alan Alda. Farrell once said, "I began to sweat at the [thought] that if this show fails in the fourth season, I'm going to wear it around my neck for the rest of my life: the guy who sank M*A*S*H"! Eight seasons later he wrapped up his highly successful run on M*A*S*H and Rogers while enjoying a continuing a successful acting career never quite regained the former fame that he had enjoyed on M*A*S*H.

As of 2011, Providence has only had one Dvd release (in 2004) of 12 episodes on 4 Dvds.

Providence won an Emmy in 2000 for the second season episode, "Syd In Wonderland" in the category "Outstanding Costumes for a Series". That same year the series won the People's Choice Award for "Favorite New Drama Television Series".

NBC fully expected to bring Providence back for a sixth season but several of the Cast including Melina Kanakaredes who played the lead role decided that it was time to move on to other things. This isn't as unusual as you might think. While fans may want to see more of their favorite series, it can become mundane for an actor playing the same role for so long. Often it's simply the hugh salaries offered to the main Cast that keeps them after five or six seasons but that's not always enough. In Melina's case, her very next role as Detective Stella Bonasera on an episode of "CSI: Miami" immediately led to her reprising that role as a regular cast member on the new series, "CSI: New York"!

Providence was primarily filmed in Universal City, California on the backlot and on Stage 36. Some scenes were also shot in Los Angeles, California and Providence, Rhode Island.
