Series Description:The Nanny TV show was a 30 minute comedy series on CBS about a Jewish woman from Queens who got fired by and simultaneously dumped by her boyfriend. While selling cosmetics door-to-door, she arrived at the home of a wealthy, widowed Broadway producer who mistakenly believed that she had come to apply for the job as nanny of his three children. She took the job and the family came to love her "no-nonsense", "tell it like it is" personality! The contrast between Nanny's personality and the family's "stiff upper lip" demeanor presented many opportunities for laughs! The Nanny TV Show Cast:Fran Drescher .................... Val Toriello Theme Song LyricsTitle: "The Nanny Named Fran"By: "Ann Hampton Calloway"She was working in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens, Til her boyfriend kicked her out in one of those crushing scenes. What was she to do, where was she to go She was out on her fanny. So over the bridge from Flushing to the Sheffield's door, She was there to sell make up but the father saw more, She had style, she had flair, she was there, That's how she became the Nanny. Who would have guessed that the girl we described was just exactly what the doctor prescribed? Now, the father finds her beguiling, watch out C.C., The kids are actually smiling, such joie de vivre She's the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan. The flashy girl from Flushing, the Nanny named Fran. The Nanny TV Show Trivia:C.C. Babcock's dog on The Nanny was, in real-life, Fran Drescher's dog. His name both on and off the show was Chester. One of the common themes included in most episodes of The Nanny was the unspoken sexual attraction between Fran Fine and Maxwell Sheffield. Many other TV shows have used that situation as a "teaser" for audiences including, "Moonlighting", "Nothern Exposure", "Remington Steele", and "Who's the Boss?". On The Nanny, another not so common aspect was added by having Mr. Sheffield's partner, "C.C. Babcock" also interested in him and more than a bit jealous of his attentions to Fran Fine! There were a few changes made to The Nanny TV show episodes for broadcast in Italy. Fran's name was changed to Francesca and she was no longer Jewish, simply a woman from Italy. In the U.S. version just the opposite happened. The producers actually planned for Fran to be simply a woman from Italy but Drescher insisted that her role be that of a Jewish woman. When the Nanny TV show was broadcast in the United Kingdom, it received numerous letters from viewers saying that Charles Shaughnessy's British accent was terrible. Many suggested that he get lessons from his co-star Daniel Davis. That was baffling to the pair because Shaughnessy was a native born Londoner and Davis was a native born American from Arkansas! If you thought that the interior scenes of the Sheffield's home looked familiar, maybe it's because the sets were the same ones used on the TV series, "Sister, Sister"! You might think that Ms. Drescher picked the name "Fran" as a stage name but, actually, her birthname is "Francine Joy Drescher" so Fran is just a shortened form for her real name. On episode #143, "The Baby Shower", Fran Drescher appeared as herself! She told her character and the audience that they should make sure to tune in for the final episode of The Nanny that would air next week!
