Series Description

Malcolm in the Middle is a 30 minute comedy series on the FOX Network about a teenager who is a genius who struggles to cope with a ridiculously dysfunctional family. He also has problems coping with his fellow students who resent his superior intellect and the treatment he gets from school officials because he's super smart.

Malcolm in the Middle Trivia

"In the Middle" refers to the fact that Malcolm has an older and a younger brother.

In episode #10, "Stock Car Races", when Hal and the boys return home from the race track they discover that Lois went through all of their stuff while they were gone. One of the items she left laying out was a pack of Morley cigarettes. That's the same ficticious brand that was smoked by the "Cigarette Smoking Man" on the X-Files TV show and by "Spike" on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Morleys have been used on numerous other TV series and many theatrical films as a way to portray smoking without giving free advertising to an actual brand and to prevent possible law suits.

While the exact location of Malcolm's house has never been mentioned, the street address was mentioned in episode #81, "Reese's Party". It was 12334 Maple Boulevard Millbrook. The actual house that is used for shots of the exterior of Malcolm's home is located at 12334 Cantura Street in Studio City, California. Many cars have been seen on the show with California license tags and even the family vehicle was seen sporting California plates in episode #17, "Traffic Jam" so we can be pretty sure that they live in some part of California.

The writers also really went out of their way to hide Malcolm and his family's last name. In the pilot episode, however, you could see a nametag on Francis with the name "Wilkerson" on it. There was also a scene cut from the pilot where Malcolm is asked what his last name is and he responds, "Wilkerson".

Frankie Muniz (Malcolm) is actally 82 days older than costar Justin Berfield (Reese) even though he played Reese's little brother on the series. Frankie Muniz (Malcolm) was 14, Justin Berfield (Reese) was 13, Erik Per Sullivan (Dewey) was 8, Christopher Masterson (Francis) was just 11 days shy of 20 on the day that the first episode of Malcolm in the Middle aired.
