Love Boat: The Next Wave

Love Boat: The Next Wave Cast

Series Description

Love Boat: The Next Wave was a 60 minute comedy series on UPN (now the CW Network) about various couples' romantic encounters aboard a luxury cruise ship and the crew's interactions with themselves and the passengers. Each week, well-known stars from other TV shows or movies would appear as guest stars. It was a remake of the series, "The Love Boat (1977)" on a new ship called the "Sun Princess" which sailed from Florida to the Caribbean, moving the action from the Pacific Ocean (on the original series) to the Atlantic.

Next Wave Trivia

As stated in our description, Love Boat: The Next Wave was a "remake" of the "original Love Boat TV Series". It is not a "spin-off series", however as no characters from the original became regular Cast on The Next Wave".

Captain Kennedy was recently retired from the Navy when he took the job as Captain of the Sun Princess. He felt it was kind of a "sissy" job after what he'd done in the service but took it to get more time with his son Danny who joined him on the ship. It also took the Captain a while to understand that he couldn't simply "bark-out" orders to his crew and expect to hear, "Yes, Sir!" anymore. Civilian life required him to become more diplomatic.

Unlike the original Love Boat TV show, each episode of "The Next Wave" had a slightly different arrangement and a different singer for the theme song. The singers were not listed in the credits.

Danny Kennedy, the Captain's son, turned 16 years old on the final episode of the first season.

Episode #10, "Reunion" got its name from the fact that the cast from the original Love Boat appeared on that episode. Vicki, Captain Stubings now grown-up daughter, got married on that episode. Julie and Doc were also pretty "Lovey-Dovey" on that episode. Only Fred Grandy did not appear. He had become a politician by that time and was trying diligently to lose his "Gopher" image!
