Last of the Mohicans Miniseries Cast

Series Description

The Last of the Mohicans was a dramatic miniseries that aired on the BBC and later in the U.S. on Masterpiece Theater. The story took place in 1757 in the British Province of New York during the French and Indian War (aka: the Seven Years War). The British and the French were fighting for domination of the U.S. colonies. The French necessarily allied with the American Indians in order to give them a chance against the mostly British colonists. When the French lost the war, it was disastrous for the Indians as they had been greatly weakened by the war and were abandoned by their ally.

Last of the Mohicans Miniseries Trivia

The Last of the Mohicans Miniseries is based on the 1826 novel of the same name. It is the second book of the Leatherstocking Tales pentalogy written by author James Fenimore Cooper. The five novels were: "The Pioneers (Published: 1823; covered the year: 1793)", "The Last of the Mohicans (Published: 1826; covered the year: 1757)", "The Prairie (Published: 1827; covered the year: 1804)", "The Pathfinder (Published: 1840 covered the 1750s)", and "The Deerslayer (Published: 1841; covered the years: 1740-1755)".

You might recognize John Abineri who portrayed Chingachgook on the Last of the Mohicans miniseries from his role as General Carrington on 17 episodes of the series, "Doctor Who".

Each of the eight episodes of the miniseries was 45 minutes long when it aired in Great Britain and on 13 episodes of about 30 minutes each on PBS in the United States with introductions added by Alistair Cooke.

The Mohican haircut, more commonly known as a "Mohawk", became a fad after the Last of the Mohicans aired. Ironically, that hairstyle was not worn by the Mohicans on the show. It was worn by the Huron tribe.

The miniseries was filmed on location in Stirling, Scotland at Campsie Fells and Fintry and also in Highland, Scotland at Glen Affric.
