The Joey Bishop Show

The Joey Bishop Show Cast

Series Description

The Joey Bishop Show was a comedy series about the host of a talk show. The storylines usually split their plots between his relationships with business associates and those in his personal life. Trivia

The Joey Bishop Show was a "spin-off" of the series, "Make Room For Daddy". Episode #252 of that show titled, "Everything Happens To Me" was the pilot for this series!

The Joey Bishop Show had several Cast that went on to future fame! Among them were Marlo Thomas ("That Girl"), Bill Bixby ("My Favorite Martian" / "The Magician" / "The Courtship of Eddie's Father"), Abby Dalton ("Falcon Crest"), and Joe Flynn ("McHale's Navy") and that's just the regular cast! Many of the relatively unknown bit players also went on to star on their own series!

The Joey Bishop Show was filmed in Black & White during season 1, color for seasons 2 and 3, and then back to Black & White for the last season (probably to cut costs - color film was much more expensive at that time).

People often ask about who guest-hosted the "Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" more times. Was it David Letterman? Bob Newhart? Joan Rivers? Shortly after 1983, Joan Rivers won as she became the "permanent" guest host that fall. Up till then though, Joey Bishop held the record! In September of 1983, here's the list of competitors: After "The Tonight Show" moved from New York to California in May 1972, Carson took Monday nights off and the show would be hosted by a guest performer. Until Joan Rivers became "permanent guest host" in September 1983, the most frequent of these "guest hosts" were: Joey Bishop (177 times), Joan Rivers (93 times), Bob Newhart (87 times), John Davidson (87 times), David Brenner (70 times), McLean Stevenson (58 times), Jerry Lewis (52 times), and David Letterman (51 times).
