Farscape Trivia

All couples have their problems. Ben Browder had some pretty bad problems with his wife in the make-believe world of television. Ben's wife, "Francesca Buller" appeared as a guest star on four episodes of Farscape and played an enemy of John Chrichton on all four!

The Farscape TV show nearly ended during the middle of the first episode. The series was being filmed in FOX Studios in Australia. The studio decided to kick out the Farscape crew in order to produce "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones"! Luckily a replacement studio was found in Australia and Farscape production continued!

The producers almost didn't stick with the title, "Farscape". That's the one they started with but they changed it for a brief amount of time to, "Far Horizon". That didn't "stick" long though and they soon returned the title to Farscape.

One problem with futuristic space shows is finding a way for the hero(es) to communicate with the aliens. Most other sci-fi movies and TV series have used an external computer to do the translation like the "Universal Translator" on the "Star Trek" series. On Farscape they had John Crichton get an injection of microbes that modified his brain so that it could understand all alien languages!

Another aspect of Farscape that has rarely been seen in sci-fi books, movies, or other TV shows is the fact that the spaceship, "Moya" was actually a living alien from a race called the "Leviathans".

The insignia on John Chrichton's uniform was a bit confusing. One patch had the anagram "IASA" on it. While it was never stated, we can guess that stood for "International Aeronautics and Space Administration". John also, however, had a U.S. flag on his uniform and his ship bore the words, "United States". The only thing that makes sense is that he was a member of a U.S. organization on a mission in a U.S. ship and the U.S. was working together with other nations in an international space consortium. Think of it like that U.S. Space Shuttle astronauts on an Internation Space Station mission.

Ben Browder was the only actor who appeared on every single episodes of Farscape.

While all of you Farscape fans probably realize it, we thought we should mention that Ben Browder and Claudia Black would again co-star together on the series, "Stargate SG1".

John Crichton got 20th place in TV Guide's 2004 "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends" list!

Better yet ... Farscape got fourth place on the "25 Top Cult Shows Ever" list!

You may have thought that "DRD" was an abreviation for "Droid" but it actually stood for "Diagnostic Repair Darter".

Farscape Opening Narrative

Ben Browder's Voice (as a Garbled Distress Call):

"My name is John Crichton ... an astronaut ... radiation leak ... I got shot up ... I was lost in some distant part of the universe ... on a ship full of strange alien life forms ... listen please! ... can anyone out there hear me? ... Mayday ... by insane military commander ... I can't! ... I'm just looking for a way home."
