Posting: Changing Fonts and Colors. Quoting. Adding Photos.      Thu Sep 07, 2006 10:17 am Reply with quote

I know that many of you have had no web programming experience and there has been a lot of incorrect usage of the features that allow you to "Jazz Up" your posts. For those of you with any html knowledge, this stuff will seem obvious to you but remember, none of us were born knowing how to do these things.

You have to tell the web when you want something displayed, let's say, in red text instead of black. It's been greatly simplified for you here. When writing a post, simply use the "Font Colour" drop down menu above where you type your post. Click on Red. That will cause the necessary code to drop down onto your text area. It will look like this:

[ color=red ][ /color ]

except that I've added spaces inside the brackets so that the code will show on this post. Otherwise, it would disappear, thinking that I'm telling the web to display something in Red.

The [ color=red ] portion tells the web to start displaying what you type in Red. the [ /color ] tells the web to stop using red type. In other words, you type whatever you want in Red between these ][ brackets. Again, use the code the way the drop down menu puts it in your typing area. DON'T add the spaces I added.

The same methods apply to changing the size of your letters. Just use the "Font Size" drop down menu and type between the ][ brackets.

There are buttons above the drop down menus that allow you to make things bold, italics, underlined, etc. There is one minor difference from the drop down menus in that you click the button once, type what you want to see changed, and then hit the button again to turn it off.

To put a photo on your post, you have to first know where it's stored on the web. If the photo is already online, just right-click on it and select "Copy Image Location" (in Windows XP). Then go to the spot in your post where you want the photo to appear and click the "Img" button once. Then right click again and select, "Paste". Then click the "Img" button again to tell the web that is the end of the image's location. Photos do add a nice touch!

If you're responding to a post from say three pages back in the thread, it's alway helpful to "Quote" what the other person before you respond. Otherwise, many people will think your post is nonsense. Just hit the quote button once, then copy the text from the other person's post and paste it into your message, then hit the quote button again.

Quote:
This is how the text you quoted will look

Well, that covers the most commonly used and the most fun things to make your posts more unique. Use the "Preview" button to see how your post will look before submitting it, especially if you're not a registered user at this forum. Only registered users can go back later and edit any mistakes.

Just so everybody knows, that is old information. Guests can still read messages here but they can't post messages until they register.
