Keeping Up With the Kardashians      Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:47 am Reply with quote

Some people just need to get a life of their own!

A Colorado women who apparently has nothing better to do has started an online petition to get "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" canceled. First of all, no matter how you feel about the Kardashians or their show, there are several hundred other channels so why not just choose one? Secondly, all the petitions in the world won't convince a network to cancel a profitable show. Despite these facts, thousands of people signed the petition within its first two weeks online.

In response to her leading the war to kill off the show, Kardashian fans who also apparently have no lives of their own are sending the woman electronic death threats!

Do none of these people realize that it's only a television program!

Keeping Up With the Kardashians      Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:47 am Reply with quote

It's important to note that there are lots of different kinds of so-called "reality" shows.

The ones like those on the Discovery Channel are mostly true reality. I mean shows that highlight real people doing real things like "Deadliest Catch", "Gold Ruch Alaska" and "Ice Road Truckers". Even on those you have to take into consideration that people might act a bit different when they know they're on camera.

Then you've got shows like "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" which show real people under "unreal" conditions. There's nothing wrong or fake about that. The competitions add an interesting element to the real responses that the real people have to those situations even though those situations don't typically occur in reality.

Shows like "Gene Simmons Family Jewels", "The Osbournes" and "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" are in another category. At the very least, they are severely edited to show snippets of the cast's life and that gives a false impression of what their lives are really like. It also seems likely that while they may not be "scripted", the producers might put the cast into situations that are likely to be exciting or controversial. The cast members must also be tempted to react to situations in ways that are good for ratings rather than how they would act in real-life.

So if your a critic of reality shows, please don't lump "Deadliest Catch" into the same league as "Keeping Up With the Kardashians". And if you are a fan of the Kardashians, that's fine. Just keep in mind that what you're watching is as much or more entertainment as it is reality.

The Kardashians are Fascinating?      Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:04 am Reply with quote

Barbara Walters appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman last night to promote her upcoming special, "The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011."

Dave was surprised that Donald Trump was on the list but Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was not. Barbara explained about Trump by saying, "Whatever you think of him, the man is fascinating. The day after someone else is elected, Donald Trump is still going to be saying that he's the candidate."

Then when Barbara asked if Dave liked another of her most fascinating picks, "The Kardashians", he stumbled his words looking for an appropriate answer and then picked up a pen and said, "I'm gonna do you a favor. I'm taking them off the list."
