I have had the same hotmail address for years, at least a decade. I have never used it on this site as I just found your site this evening. I entered my hotmail address and it said it was banned. Could someone please explain that to me?

The most likely reason is that there's some series of letters in your address that have been banned by our spam filters.

For example, our filter does not allow the letters "porn" anywhere within an email address. If your email adress is "sporningham@yahoo.com", it will unfortunately be banned.

Some people may find that their IP address is banned because there have been many spammers from within that persons range of IPs.

There are many other reasons that you may have had your email address banned by a filter that I won't go into for security reasons.

I know it stinks when it happens to you but our filters only affect far less than 1% of innocent parties. There are many other ways that a tiny percentage of innocent parties might get banned or get their account deleted. Again, this happens very seldom.

I'd love it if we didn't have to have any filters but then I'd have to spend most of my days individually going through each and every new member and the posts they would make. Without filters, that would be thousands per day. With filters it's from zero to twenty per day.

I hope that explains why your address was most likely banned. It definitely was a filter so don't take it personally.

HA...and didn't I just sit there for a few trying to make rude words out of my address...no luck, but kept me occupied! (GRIN)

Thanks for the info! I'm glad you have these security measures in place and relieved that I hadn't inadvertantly done something to get myself banned!
