Can private messages be shut off? Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:12 am |
|
|
As the title says, can private messages on this forum be turned off? I visit several forums and it's a major pain to get messages from all of them. Most of the other forums give you the option to turn off private messages. I try to funnel anyone trying to contact me to do it be direct email, so that I can get all messages in one spot (email). Thanks,
Joe (joemagiera at ameritech dot net)

There is no way to turn off private messaging. Typically, it's used so that you don't have to give out your email address. To protect you from SPAM. You certainly are welcome to add your email address to your posts at your own risk. If you ever decide to remove them you can edit your own messages.
In the real world, it has never been a big problem for me. I've been asked hundreds of questions here and less than a dozen have been via private messaging.
Of course, if you're discussing something with another member about television and it's not personal or private, I'd prefer that you just do so through posting to the forum so everyone can join in! |

I get a ridiculous number of private messages on facebook. And I spoke to soon in my previous message. Since then I have received a few here but far fewer messages than on facebook and astronomically less than the spam emails I receive.
Add to that the amount of junk snail mail, unwanted telephone calls, and salesman even coming unsolicited to my front door and ..... UGH!
Let's face it. The scumbags will unfortunately always be online and offline! |

As a young woman, I really get tired of all the emails I get for Viagra and for stuff to make "my tool" bigger.
I DON'T HAVE A TOOL SPAMMERS!
Quit wasting my time!
I've had mostly notices of private messages here but then they've all been deleted when I go to check them. So the spam control here seems to be pretty good. |

I get those too. It's disgusting! I think that every stupid person that thinks there is a way to get rich quick believes they can do it by selling such sick stupid stuff.
Why don't they simply get an education and work hard. I guess that's not easy enough for them. So 20 million people try to sell Viagra or that other thing. You'd think they'd realize that all of them can't send out the very same spam emails and all get rich.
They're just a pain in the rear end. |
