Feedback about the forum!      Mon May 28, 2007 6:57 am Reply with quote

Feedback about the forum!
I'd like to give some feedback about the Forum, I am surprised how few people use it, here are some of the issues I have observed and heard from members:

1. From the homepage there is no apparent direct link to member forum. I find it each time by going to the blog and going to the disclaimer where it gives you the link to Member forum. Could you maybe make it more visible, and more people will use it.

2. Quite a few people have mentioned that they submitted non-offensive posts and that their posts got pulled (happened to me the other day) this will surely discourage people.

3. Some people have mentioned that they submitted a post and no reply from w/s staff was ever received..that will surely discourage people.

thanks for listening and have a great day! Marita

1. There is a link to the forums on every page at our site ( at the top of the page (on the right) and on the left side of each page in the navigation section.

2. We only delete posts when they in themselves are offensive (porn, hate, overtly bad language, etc) or if the post added nothing at all to the forum and contained a link to a commercial site. For example, "Nice Forum! Visit my website at (url of their site).

Other ways that a post can be refused (never get posted in the first place) are they contain a word we've blocked, they contain a link where we've blocked the url for repeat spamming (most of the "4-letter words" will get your post blocked), or they're from an IP address that has repeatedly spammed the forum. In general, if you're posting here simply to promote a website, you'll probably get banned.

3. We try to answer as many posts as possible. Often, the poster asks a question without enough information to find the answer. For example, "Does anyone know the name of a comedy that aired in the 1970s with a father, mother, and two kids?" Sometimes a poster simply says something like, "Hi! I'm new here! Introduce yourself!" We don't typically answer posts like that as they add nothing about TV to the forum and we don't wish this forum to become another "talk trash and meet people" forum.

When I look at your profile, all I see is your name, email, and links to a website. In the "Interests" box, you also listed the url to a website rather than a hobby or activity like most people. Those things are pretty solid clues that you're really here to simply get links to your site. You just signed up yesterday and your first and only post has nothing to do with television, rather, it's critical about posts being banned. So while I'm not saying that you won't become a usefull contributer here but, so far, you look a lot like a spammer who's unhappy about my filtering spam policies.

By the way, I'd be interested to know where you're talking to "Quite a few people" who agree that their non-offensive posts have been banned. If there are that many people talking about this forum somewhere, I'd sure be interested to know where. I suspect it's a webmaster forum with a lot of upset webmasters because I won't allow spamming of this forum. None of the regulars here have ever mentioned a post getting banned.

As a notice to other visitors, the message above also contained a link to a commercial website which I deleted. If you want to get links here to your site, you have to have a few TV related posts "under your belt" first. If you're only here to get links, your posts will continue to be banned. Forums that don't follow that policy are taken over by the spammers and by posts that have nothing to do with the subject matter of the forum.

We have literally hundreds of attempted spam posts per day here. Without the spam filters, I would have to shut down this forum. It would take too long each day to "hand delete" the spam.

Ticked off spammer!      Mon May 28, 2007 10:27 am Reply with quote

Hey Crazy About TV! That poster is definitely a ticked off spammer. I admit that I've had a few posts that wouldn't get through your filters. In both cases, I lost my head and used some pretty fowl language. Once I replaced the obviously undesireable worlds, they went through just fine.

I'm happy to pay the price of having to watch my language if it means that I don't have to read through thousands of garbage posts in order to find one about the TV subect I'm interested in!
