The world's first broadcast to the public was made by Telstar 1 which was the world's first commercial satellite. The first images broadcast from space included views of the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, words from President John F. Kennedy, clips from a Phillies/Cubs baseball game, the American flag waving in the breeze, and of French singer Yves Montand.
The broadcast was from the Andover Earth Station in Maine to the Pleumeur-Bodou Telecom Center in Brittany, France and took place just two days after the satellite was launched into orbit. |

Professional wrestler Jerry Lawler slaped actor Andy Kaufman in the face on "Late Night with David Letterman". Kaufman responded by throwing coffee at Lawler while shouting profanities at him. The incident which got wide news coverage was later revealed to be staged and added to Kaufman's reputation as someone who could make people believe staged events were real. That reputation was so great that many people believe that Kaufman is really alive 28 years after his death. What do you think? Did Kaufman pull the ultimate con by faking his own death? |

Ted Cassidy who played "Lurch" on the 1964 comedy series, "The Addams Family" was born 80 years ago on July 31, 1932. Unfortunately, Ted had heart problems and died at the young age of 46 following open-heart surgery. Ted was known for his large size and his very deep voice. He even had a very unusual hit song that inspired a dance called "The Lurch".
Visit our CrazyAboutTV Facebook Page to see a video of him performing the song on a teen music show. It's hilarious! |
